Sérgio Vieira de Mello Chair at FMP

A partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for teaching, research and outreach on human mobility and refuge.

What the Chair is

The Chair was created by UNHCR to connect Brazilian universities committed to human mobility, refuge and human rights.

Through three pillars - teaching, research and outreach - the institutions develop initiatives to support people affected by forced displacement and to build knowledge that shapes public policies and social practices.

At FMP, we believe the Law transcends the classroom. Joining the Sérgio Vieira de Mello Chair marks our commitment to the protection and inclusion of refugees, migrants and stateless persons, through cutting-edge teaching, relevant research and transformative outreach. The Chair (CSVM) is coordinated by Professor Dr. Joseane Mariéle Schuck.

Why the Chair matters

Strengthening the social and humanistic component of legal education.

Bringing transnational and contemporary dimensions of human mobility into the academic curriculum.

Engaging the academic community (professors, researchers and students) in high-impact projects.

Contributing to real change in the lives of refugees and migrants.

Training public officials and civil servants on the subject.

Holding assistance drives for the migrant and refugee community.
